A Prophecy Against Damascus
23 Concerning Damascus:
Hamath and Arpad are troubled,
for they have heard bad news.
They melt in fear.
Like a troubled sea,
they cannot find rest.
24 Damascus has become feeble.
She turns to flee.
Panic has seized her.
Anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her,
like those of a woman in labor.
25 Why is this famous city not yet forsaken,[a]
the joyful city?[b]
Footnotes
- Jeremiah 49:25 Hebrew and Greek read not forsaken. The Latin reads why is the famous city forsaken?
- Jeremiah 49:25 Or, following a Hebrew variant, my joyful city
